As wedding photographers, it’s often easy to forget that we’re not just hired to photograph the important moments during a ceremony. Sure, the exchange of the rings, the vows and the first kiss are “must have” shots, but it’s these little moments that are just as important. The bride and groom (in this case Susan and Mark) never saw their flower girl comforted by her mother after a traumatic walk down the isle. They wouldn’t have missed this photo if I hadn’t taken it, but to me, it seemed just as important to capture this moment as it would be to photograph the first dance. My job is to photograph the obvious events and the silent happenings. I’m a documentary photographer, a cataloger of time, a keeper of memories. I would never trade my job for anything in the world. Unless some one has a job that involves making the rain go away, because I could really use some sunshine this week.
