One of the most wonderful things about being a wedding photographer is the variety of ceremonies that you get to experience. Unless you have a few dozen multicultural and ethnic friends, most people don’t to see just how different (and similar) wedding ceremonies can be. I had many firsts this year, but one of the most interesting involved the Badeken veiling ceremony that took place after the ketubah signing at Lara and Alex’s wedding. I’ve done my fair share of Jewish weddings, but this was the first that included this very spiritual religious ceremony before the traditional wedding. I was honored to be a part of a very small group of Alex and Lara’s friends and family that witnessed the couple join together in a manner beyond an exchange of rings and a kiss. It was just magical. At the end, the groom—escorted by his fellow groomsmen and male family members—walked over to the bride and covered her face with her veil. The look that Lara gives Alex in this shot is just amazing. So much emotion caught up in that one fleeting moment. The veil is already on her face, but you can see every bit of her expression. These are the moments I can’t get enough of, and this is why I’m so thankful to have the greatest job in the world. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
