Allaire State Park Engagement Photos | Dana & Matt

Allaire State Park Engagement Photos | Dana & Matt

We were all set for Dana and Matt’s Allaire State Park engagement photos. My gear was packed, Dana’s hair and makeup was done and the weather was holding up nicely. There was only one hiccup. As we arrived at the park, a state trooper informed us that the historic village would be closing early due to a shortened off-season schedule. Without skipping a beat, Dana told the trooper that the park meant the world to her and we would only need a few minutes for a quick engagement session. The trooper clearly felt bad for us and told us that he’d drive us to the best locations as long as we wrapped up before his shift was over. For a half hour we ran to every cool rustic location at Allaire and Dana and Matt kept up with grins from ear to ear. I usually tell my couples that the first half hour of every engagement shoot is awkward, because we are all still getting to know each other and most couples don’t spend a lot of time in front of a camera. Not Matt and Dana. These two were ready to rock from the get go and we got a ton of great images to show for it. Mental note: I really need to go back to Allaire State Park when I’m not under an insane time crunch. After our quick romp in the park, we backtracked to the Asbury Park boardwalk for a change of scenery and to get some cool photos in front of the old casino. Just as we crossed into the Asbury area, a crazy fog rolled into town, engulfing everything. It...
Jersey City Urban Waterfront Engagement Photos

Jersey City Urban Waterfront Engagement Photos

When photographers discuss ideal clients, they usually talk about stunning models that never complain and can pose for a styled photo in front of a giraffe with little or no direction. When I talk about ideal clients, I have been known to use adjectives like weird, nihilistic, kind of insane and open to anything. I’m strange like that. Case in point: Jessica and Danielle. This North Jersey power couple is pretty much ying and yang when it comes to personalities. Jessica is intense, boisterous, loud and has a warped sense of humor. Danielle is quiet, thoughtful, passionate and always seems to be pondering world domination and the abolishment of stupidity. But when you put them together, they form like the Constructicons into a force of nature that’s both inspirational and amazeballs. For their engagement session, we settled on a Jersey City trek that took us from the urban art district all the way to the waterfront (just in time for sunset). Most of the afternoon was filled with off-color jokes and a health helping of self deprecation, but I think we managed to come away with a lovely set of images. It also helped that we capped off the night at Zeppelin Hall Biergarten (also known as heaven). Check out Dani and Jessica’s gorgeous engagement...
Dobbs Ferry Engagement Photos {Christina & David}

Dobbs Ferry Engagement Photos {Christina & David}

There are few better ways to spend a sunny afternoon than with a really cool couple aimlessly roaming around the quaint streets of Dobbs Ferry, New York. I want to write about how romantic the day was was, but David’s spitfire sense of humor and personality ensured that we spent more time laughing, but the smiles he sparked on his future bride’s face were more than worth the comedic relief. I always say that it doesn’t matter what the backdrop to your engagement session looks like, as long as couple is truly in love, I could be shooting at a garbage dump and we would make stunning images. In this case, I had both work the location and the couple working for me, which is is bonus points for a photo nerd like me. We meandered around the back streets of Dobbs Ferry for a an hour or so, before making our way to a hidden waterfront beach that looks almost like a secluded island. As silly as we looked, crawling over logs and dancing around puddles to get to this secret beach, it was worth it in the end, as we created some of the most beautiful images from the shoot. Here are some of my favorite photos from that lovely afternoon. Check out Christina and David’s Dobbs Ferry Engagement...
Ramsey Country Club Wedding Photos {Lauren & Keith}

Ramsey Country Club Wedding Photos {Lauren & Keith}

I won’t lie, I fell in love with Lauren and Keith when I heard how Keith proposed to his betrothed by creating a legitimate Game of Thrones-style burnt parchment scroll, complete with wax family seal. Inside was a declaration of his ever-lasting love and an offer of marriage that could only be shared between two people geekier than Allison and me. That’s seriously tough to pull off. While I don’t know what the letter said, I imagine it written in an old-timey English dialect with a bevy of words that I can’t pronounce, let alone define. What matters most is that he captured Lauren’s heart and, a few months later, resealed that scroll with a kiss and a vow at the Ramsey Country Club. Not quite Medieval Times, but it served its purpose well. Lauren and Keith tied the knot on a perfect summer day. Their ceremony eschewed swords and sorcerers in favor of a more traditional — yet no less endearing — affair. Keith lit up as Lauren walked down the aisle in a gorgeous pale rose Kitty Chen gown, her hair elegantly tied up in a bun and a smile from ear to ear. The ceremony was presided over by Reverend Josh Goldfarb (a man often described as the closest one can come to touching god without actually crossing the Pearly Gates) and included a lovely letter and wine box sealing ceremony (shouldn’t everyone put away a bottle for a rainy day). An exchange of rings and a long kiss later and the two were forever bonded by gold and wine. Rumor has it that the only way this marriage could end is if Keith dies...

Chakra Wedding Photos | Paramus, NJ {Ivy & George}

Chakra Wedding Photos | Paramus, NJ {Ivy & George}

There’s something almost déjà vu about Ivy and George’s relationship. A nice Greek boy meets a stunning Jewish girl, they fall in love, date for years, build a thriving business together and then tie the knot in a nontraditional intimate wedding for their closest friends and family. Sound familiar? Yeah, that’s pretty much the same story as the one Allison and I have been writing for the past 17 years, except Ivy and George are drop-dead gorgeous and a photographer’s dream to work with. In our case, Allison is super-gorgeous and I’m riding the lumberjack-sexual craze until people realize that I’m just old and bearded. Let’s go back to George and Ivy. The two are the perfect complement to each other. They are both fitness gurus (they run GT Fitness Concepts in Woodland Park, NJ), they are driven by hard work and integrity and they have this innate ability to calm each other down when one gets a little hot under the collar. They also look absolutely marvelous together. They wed on a lovely spring day in early May, and we were lucky enough to get unhindered access to a stunning mansion for portraits (courtesy of two of their clients). I’ll let those images speak for themselves, but I have to give it to Ivy, she can pick an exquisite location. The ceremony and reception was at Chakra in Paramus, a nondescript restaurant off a typical New Jersey highway. Let me clarify; it’s nondescript until you actually walk through the doors. The staff at Chakra did an unbelievable job dressing the room in silks scarves and candles, with purple...
Jersey City Engagement Photos {Jessica & Danielle Teaser}

Jersey City Engagement Photos {Jessica & Danielle Teaser}

Last night, Allison and I spent nearly six hours traipsing around Jersey City with one of the coolest couples we’ve ever worked with. This image was taken moments after the sun sank behind the Jersey City skyline. I couldn’t have asked for a nicer view of Manhattan, but I think Jessica and Dani truly made the photo...
Stephanie & Jason Wedding Teaser {Nanina’s In The Park}

Stephanie & Jason Wedding Teaser {Nanina’s In The Park}

I have one personal goal when I’m photographing a wedding; to create an impactful image that I’ve never created before. Something that speaks to me and my style; a photo that I swoon over. It’s not always easy, but I test myself weekend after weekend to try and achieve it. The photo below was created at Nanina’s in the Park, just after the sun went down. The couple had asked me to recreate a photograph that I had previously taken of another bride and groom silhouetted and backlit from the balcony of the bridal room. I obliged, but secretly wanted to try something new. While waiting for the couple to get in position, I noticed that the candles from the ceremony were still lit and stored under the chuppah. Throwing caution to the wind, I asked Stephanie and Jason if they could sneak down during the cocktail hour and help make a portrait of them surrounded by candles, while I shot down from the bridal suite balcony. They jumped at the chance, and with the help of the awesome staff at Nanina’s and some flash assist from Moses Cruz, we created what I think is a memorable photo that Stephanie and Jason will...
