I don’t advertise it, but every now and then, I get an offer to photograph a civil or private wedding service at a home or park, and they almost always turn out to be my favorite events. Sure, I don’t get the same amount of time to capture a copious amount of photos, but I try my damnedest to create a portfolio of images that capture the spirit and excitement of the day, regardless of whether there are a dozen people in attendance or hundreds.

Just a few days short of the end of 2013, I was invited into the home of Niki and Vic, a beautiful couple that share the same love of music, photography, mid-century design and vintage vehicles as Allison and me. Rather than buy into the wedding machine, the two decided to tie the knot in their living room with only their closest friends and family watching. The nuptials were intimate and minimalist, but the love is undeniable. After a short break, we headed off to Hoboken for a few hours of portraits as the sun set in the distance. The waterfront view was breathtaking and I did my best to steal as much of the light as possible, before the sun winked out behind the New York skyline. This was proof that a perfect wedding doesn’t need bells and whistles, just two people in love and a little creativity.
